Introduction of the Course

Patient safety is an important component in the care of patients in the hospital. There have been numerous events of harm caused to the patient because of ignorance or absence of protocols concerning this important aspect. One of the ways in which harm can be caused to the patient is by wrong identification of patient. This module deals with the detailed description on how the patient should be correctly identified in the hospital. It also includes details related to application of the identity band and identification of the conscious as well as unconscious patient. The module is based on JCI guidelines 

Objectives:

At the end of the course the learner will be able to:

  • Appreciate the importance of delivering the right care to right patient.
  • Demonstrate ability to adhere to the patient safety protocol with regard to correct identification of the patient.
